The
Louisiana Forest Festival, reorganized in 1980, salutes
the timber industry in our state. The festival
encompasses timber related activities. There
are numerous forestry equipment displays and related
exhibits. Professional lumberjack
sports competitors come from throughout the United
States to participate in the show. The Lumberjack
Challenge T.V. Show on OLN has featured the festival.
There will be 13 lumberjack events to cheer on with
6 different chainsaw events. The festival will have
excellent fun and food throughout the day. Come and

LA
FOREST FESTIVAL 2010 GRAND MARSHALL: MARK MARTINEZ
Third-Generation
Logger Gets State's Logging Award
From Staff Reports August 27, 2009
ZWOLLE Third-generation logger Mark Martinez got the
nod as this year's Louisiana Outstanding Logger by
the Louisiana Forestry Association and the Louisiana
Logging Council.
Martinez's company, Timber-Mark-Inc., and the crew
of 11 were judged statewide winners by a team led
by Dr. Clyde Vidrine, a retired professor from the
Louisiana Tech University School of Forestry. Other
judges were Terry Martin with the U.S. Forest Service
and Jack McFarland, the 2008 Outstanding Logger.
Martinez follows in the footsteps of his father, A.T.
Martinez, who was the first recipient of the outstanding
logger award in 1987. Mark Martinez' two brothers
are loggers as well.
Jody Woodard of Weyerhaeuser nominated Mark Martinez.
"Whatever job we put him on, he will adapt to it and
still get the production and the safety," Woodard
said.
"All I know is to work hard," said Mark Martinez,
something he has done for more than 30 years. The
48-year-old logger started full time in the woods
at age 17, working for his father and uncle "Pie"
Martinez. Mark Martinez's wife, Donna, is the bookkeeper
for the business.
"This is a family that has an extreme amount of integrity,"
said Steve Muslow, forestry consultant and LFA president.
